VfB Stuttgart beat second-tier side Greuther Fürth 6-1 in a friendly on Saturday.

Saturday’s match is a duel between two teams whose seasons could hardly have been more different. While Union are still sat in third place in the Bundesliga, despite the 3-0 defeat in Munich last Sunday, Köln are as if caught in a netherworld in twelfth, unsure if they are facing up or down. One reason for this is their record away from home, with only eight points taken from 11 games on the road so far.

Lukas Nmecha’s tale of woe is a long one with many chapters. After breaking his ankle at the end of 2021 and missing eight league games, he was then hit with persistent patella tendon problems barely a year later. Last season, the German international striker managed just 18 appearances in the league and the DFB Cup combined.

There were a few outfit choices that aren’t often seen in the audience for BVB games: instead of Black and Yellow patches, some fans had “Iron Maiden” written on their tops.
