Amos Pieper is often asked how he’s getting on at the moment. “Things have been better, but given the circumstances,” he answered hopefully. The broken ankle that the 25-year-old suffered at the end of November in training is the worst injury in his career so far. Due to the fact that the schedule for rehab is heavily dependent on the healing process, Pieper has had to learn to be patient.

Tuchel said after the game (via @iMiaSanMia), “I had a lot of conversations with the players, but not about the formation. Our idea was to put the players in the positions where we think they’re comfortable. The acceptance was definitely there.”

“We got settled here very well. With a longer flight and the time difference, it takes some getting used to on the first day. But the team quickly got into the swing of things. We did everything we could to get the team into rhythm ahead of the trip. This is a new experience this year. We deliberately chose to come to America. We are not neglecting the sporting aspects, which are important to us in this phase. The conditions here are ideal. We consciously made a decision to stay here for a longer period of time in order to train intensively. Yesterday’s game showed that we still have a few issues to work on. Now we are looking forward to the two games that are still to come. The tour is packed, but with a clear focus on the sporting side of things, of course, with the additional stuff on the side. We are very happy so far. The guys are doing great and I think they feel very comfortable.”

Leroy Sané assisted Coman’s goal but some thought that the former Manchester City winger had an up-and-down performance. New coach Thomas Tuchel was queried about the 27-year-old’s performance but tried to stamp down the focus on the player.
