When SV Werder Bremen take on FC Bayern München at the Allianz Arena on Sunday afternoon, it’s sure to be a special game. Not only will the match mark the 114th time that the sides have met in the Bundesliga, but it will also a significant game for one of Ole Werner’s key men, as Michael Zetterer returns to his hometown for the first time since solidifying his position as the Green-Whites’ starting goalkeeper.
The defender said his goodbyes to the team on Wednesday. Tanganga was forced to sit out due to knee problems at the start of the season, and missed a large proportion of the opening matches as a result. Japhet made a matchday squad for the only time in the away game against Köln at the start of November, but he was not brought onto the pitch at any point.
The manager looked on helplessly. He was still new and hadn’t been able to effectively set his team. After all, seven months isn’t long enough for a long-term project manager to set his mark.
The proceeds from the auction and donations will go entirely to Caritas Berlin, which is working on the ground together with Caritas International to provide aid in the worst-hit areas of Aleppo, Latakia, Hama and Idlib. Further information on the relief organisation and its work on the ground can be found here.
The week-long training camp in the southern Danish town of Skærbæk, which comes five weeks before the opening game of the Bundesliga season at home to VfL Oldenburg on 9 September, is an important element of BVB head coach Henk Groener’s planning. “BVB have already been there in recent years and have had good experiences in Skærbæk. Everything that we need is on site,” explained the former coach of the Dutch and German national teams prior to departure.

Julián Malatini has only been in Bremen for a few days, but has already gathered a good impression of his new home. The Argentine has had to adapt to the snowy conditions in Bremen since his arrival. “It’s certainly a big transition to move from one climate zone to another,” the 22-year-old told the journalists in the mixed zone, smiling. “I don’t have any photos of myself in the snow as a child, so I have no memory of what it’s like – that’s why I’m really enjoying the weather here.”
Franziska Kett earned another start and Lina Magull and Georgia Stanway supplied the goals, both in the second half and the latter from a penalty. Highlights below:
