VfL Wolfsburg

Stalemate in Heidenheim

VfL Wolfsburg were held to an entertaining 1-1 draw by Heidenheim in their first encounter of the second half of the 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign. The Wolves took an early lead through Vaclav Cerny (7’) but the home side responded well and thought they had equalised through Jan Schöppner (21’), only for the goal to be disallowed for offside. Heidenheim did eventually restore parity in first-half stoppage time (45’+2), when Moritz Jenz inadvertently sent the ball into his own net. The hosts had another goal chalked off in the second half as the game ended all square.

Justvan joins Darmstadt on loan

“Julian is a very talented player who has the speed and technical ability to play an important role in our squad in the future. He has repeatedly demonstrated this in training, even though he has had very little match practice at the highest level with us,” said Pirmin Schwegler, head of professional football at TSG. With this in mind, both parties have agreed to Justvan joining SV Darmstadt 98 on loan. “There he has the chance to get the minutes he needs in the Bundesliga. I am convinced that this decision will pay off both for Julian and for us as a club,” added Schwegler.

All Eyes on Eintracht

Union and their hosts have hardly had time to catch breath since their last encounter on the 25th matchday of the Bundesliga season, which took place only just before the recent international break. Then, they faced each other at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei and just like in the previous encounter in October last year, the spoils went to the home team. Union winning 2-0 against Oliver Glasner’s team.

Joshua Kimmich hammers Bayern Munich for losing leads

It was another historic night in the Pokal for Christian Streich’s side just a season after finishing up as runners up in the competition, having lost to RB Leipzig in the final in Berlin. From Bayern’s perspective, the treble dreams are over, and the rate at which they’re surrendering leads is cause for concern, especially with Manchester City looming on the horizon in the Champions League and the Bundesliga title race still being very tight.

TSG Hoffenheim

The right balance for success

Numerous highlights await SC Freiburg in the coming months. The club won’t just have Europe on their mind in the Bundesliga; their fans have at least two more nights under the floodlights in the UEFA Europa League to look forward to. Christian Streich’s team will face RC Lens, last year’s runners-up in the French Ligue 1, in the intermediate round of the competition.
