Season opening event: BVB unveil the squad for the 2023/24 season

One after another, stadium announcer Nobby Dickel called the goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, strikers and coaching staff onto the pitch. Emre Can was at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK for the first time since his appointment as captain and said: “We’ve prepared ourselves well and are ready for the season. I’m extremely proud to be the captain of Borussia Dortmund.”

Two completely different halves

The new signings Ramy Bensebaini, Felix Nmecha and Marcel Sabitzer were welcomed to Dortmund as BVB players for the first time. “Thanks for the lovely welcome. The first days are always exciting and stimulating. The lads have welcomed me well and I feel very comfortable,” explained Sabitzer, adding: “I see the potential and quality of the team. I can hardly wait to be on the pitch here. I’m looking forward to the atmosphere.”

Coach Edin Terzic also picked up the microphone. “First of all, I would like to thank you on behalf of the team for the unbelievable support last season. We were as loud as ever before. You were there for us when things got rocky and especially when it hurt at the end of the season. You demonstrated what a special club our hearts beat for,” he said, recalling the end of the season. “We want to show everyone that we’re ready for the next step and that we’re not finished yet. I can promise you: we’re looking forward to the season. Mostly, we’re looking forward to you. We’ll be there for you like you were there for us. We’ll keep going.” (cr)
