But the road to this success has not been simple for Stanišić. And in a press conference during the international break that was captured by @iMiaSanMia, the Croatian international elaborated on just how difficult that path was. “My path has always been difficult, sometimes I wonder why. I’ve been an outsider all my life, so I got used to it. You have nothing to lose, when I get a chance, I want to play well and show that I’m a good player, not just for the bench and substitute,” he said.
The Borussia Dortmund management did not quite know how to view the 1-1 draw away to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League round of 16. On the one hand, BVB remained unbeaten and picked up an away draw; but on the other, Dortmund were left ruing the scene that led to the equaliser. Eindhoven were awarded a dubious penalty in the second half and scored via Luuk de Jong.
The Pogon Szczecin women’s team is in a similar phase of preparation as Union, since they will both be starting the season in the third week of August. The team, located on the Baltic Coast, finished 5th last season in the Ekstraliga Kobiet, the highest league in Poland. 21-year-old striker Natalia Oleszkiewicz scored the most goals for Pogon, netting ten. Another key player is 24-year-old forward Roksana Ratajczyk, who has made two appearances for the Polish national team.
Six days after the home match against Dynamo Dresden, the next big name await Borussia Dortmund’s U23s: 1. FC Saarbrücken are another side with aspirations of promotion.
Following on from the 1-0 defeat in Mainz, Jess Thorup had to do without Jeffrey Gouweleeuw and Mads Pedersen (both suspended). Maximilian Bauer filled in at centre-back, whilst Fredrik Jensen returned to Augsburg’s midfield.
Since starting his loan spell, Sabitzer has made a total of 11 appearances across all competitions for Erik ten Hag’s side, and he’s been able to find the back of the net once, in the FA Cup quarterfinals win over Fulham. He also provided the assist for Marcus Rashford’s lone goal in the narrow 1-0 win over Brentford at the beginning of the month, which kept United in the top four, even with Newcastle United’s recent run of results. More importantly for the Austrian international himself, he’s been starting far more regularly at United than he was at Bayern, which is the exact reason why he chose to go out on loan.
Line-ups Head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo made two changes to the starting line-up from the 1-0 defeat...
Pogon Stettin: Sapor – Dyguś (46. Michalczyk), Zimoch (46. Bielecka), Bużan (46. Brzozowska), Radochońska (70. Dyguś) – Seybert (70. Siwek), Łaniewska (30. Litwiniec) – Garbowska (63. Szcześniak), Brodzik, Szcześniak (30. Kuśmierczyk) – Oleszkiewicz (63. Rybińska)
The scenario: BVB have started the season with four points (1-0 win against Köln, 1-1 draw in Bochum), while Heidenheim are still pointless following good performances but unlucky results in Wolfsburg (2-0 defeat) and at home to Hoffenheim (3-2 loss after 2-0 lead).
Kevin Mbabu: “We showed an awesome team mentality and always believed in ourselves. We may have been dealt an early blow with their opening goal, but then we showed a good reaction. We can be proud of our performance, and the substitutes did a super job, too. After this weekend’s results, it’s an important victory, and from tomorrow we’ll turn our attention towards our next important fixture in Darmstadt.”
