There were 32 teams in the hat and just three teams in pot 1: Arminia Bielefeld, Dynamo Dresden (both third division) and Kickers Offenbach (fourth division).

Opener in Denmark: Europa League fixtures scheduled

European football is finally returning to Sinsheim and TSG Hoffenheim. It all gets going on 25 September, when TSG make the trip to Denmark to face Midtjylland. Kick-off is at 21:00 CEST. TSG will play their first home game against Dynamo Kyiv at 18:45 CEST on 3 October. The home highlight against Tottenham Hotspur will take place at 18:45 CEST on 23 January.

Andrej Ilic to Sharpen Union’s Attack

The 24-year-old Ilic took his first steps in football in his native city of Belgrade, Serbia. He began his education in the game a youth player at Partizan, and went on to play for the U19s of the club from the ‘white city’. In the summer of 2018, he moved a few kilometres south-east to Napredak Kruševac, where he made his debut in the Serbian first division at the age of 18 – against Partizan, of all clubs. He stayed at Kruševac for a total of two years before joining a new club in his home country’s top flight, and it was at Javor Ivanjica, the right-footer developed into a regular striker, scoring nine goals with three assists in 29 games that season.

After a draw in Augsburg on the opening day of the Bundesliga season, SV Werder Bremen are finally back at the Weserstadion for their first home match of the 2024/25 campaign. Borussia Dortmund are the visitors for Saturday’s game (30/08/24, kick-off 15:30 CEST). While the Green-Whites are unbeaten in seven competitive matches, Borussia come into the fixture with fresh impetus.

Thorup: “Expecting a really tough game”

While the higher-ups were working frantically behind the scenes on deadline day, FCA head coach Jess Thorup turned his attention towards the upcoming challenge. “I’ve got a lot of respect for what Heidenheim have achieved,” emphasised the 54-year-old, who was in attendance for FCH’s 3-2 win against BK Häcken in the Voith-Arena. Thorup has fond memories of the stadium, since it’s where he celebrated the perfect start to his tenure as FCA head coach last season with a thumping 5-2 victory.
