Claude-Maurice brace seals 2-1 victory vs. Dortmund

FCA head coach Jess Thorup made two changes to the starting XI for his side’s first game back after the international break. Whilst Alexis Claude-Maurice – who had recently made two cameo appearances against Borussia Mönchengladbach and in Freiburg – was named in the line-up for the very first time, Keven Schlotterbeck returned to the back four after overcoming a thigh injury.

Vote! Germany 3 – 3 Ukraine: Community player ratings

Now Germany are a national powerhouse that have been wandering the wilderness for years. And if they were hoping to show themselves as one of the early favorites for the 2024 European Championships, this wasn’t the way to do it. The upcoming EURO hosts had a scare against Ukraine, and the Bild ratings were unsparing:

TSG Hoffenheim

Longing for European success

This millennium got off to a rather sluggish start for FC Porto. After winning five consecutive league titles between 1995 and 1999, a trophy drought followed. That prompted the club officials to unveil José Mourinho as the new coach in January 2002. The former Barcelona youth coach had previously been in charge at UD Leiria, was only 38 years old and was regarded as a great coaching talent. The signing of the Portuguese tactician quickly turned out to be one of the best transfers in the club’s history.

VfB Stuttgart

Wondergoals give VfB victory

VfB Stuttgart scored two brilliant goals in a 2-1 victory over Holstein Kiel.

VfL Wolfsburg

Stalemate in Hamburg

VfL Wolfsburg drew 0-0 away to FC St. Pauli on Bundesliga Matchday 8, a result that means Ralph Hasenhüttl’s charges slip down to 14th in the table for the time being.

FC Augsburg

Rexhbecaj: “It was a well-deserved victory”

Keven Schlotterbeck: “It was an important win! We showed a good mentality and intensity, we didn’t allow our opposition many chances and really threw ourselves into the game. To come back like we did after going 1-0 down, in front of our own fans, is naturally a great feeling. Of course, it’s a little painful to see your brother lose, but first and foremost, I’m pleased with the victory. We were on it today and picked up three deserved points.”

Match awards from Germany’s latest lackluster showing…this time vs. Ukraine

After falling behind 3-1, Germany did show some heart and resiliency to battle back and make it 3-3. At certain points, it seemed like doing Match Awards was going to be a difficult task (and in some cases it was), but things eventually started to look better for Hansi Flick’s squad.

SC Freiburg

SCF let lead slip in Leipzig

The first real chance came at the Freiburg end after nine minutes, when Leipzig found themselves with lots of space. Lois Openda let fly from inside the penalty box, but the striker was put off both decisively and fairly by Christian Günter. If that was a good chance for the hosts, then Junior Adamu’s opportunity two minutes later was gilt-edged. Ritsu Doan looped the ball into the Austrian’s path before Adamu put it wide of Peter Gulacsi’s goal. A lively game was developing – shortly after, RBL had another good chance, but Noah Atubolu saved well (13’).
