FC Bayern München

The FCB Files: Bayern Munich’s History with Moles – Part 4

Overall, the team is said to have felt underchallenged at the time, because the Italian’s training content was probably not well received by the stars from Munich. That’s why the Bayern professionals complained to the bosses – which also ended up in the press afterwards.

SC Freiburg

SC fall to late defeat against Wolfsburg

There were three changes from the last game against Mainz: Kiliann Sildillia, Roland Sallai and Vincenzo Grifo replaced Lukas Kübler (suspended), Merlin Röhl (injured) and Lucas Höler (bench). SC began brightly and had a triple chance in the fifth minute. Ritsu Doan’s shot was blocked, Michael Gregoritsch hit the rebound off the bar and then Sallai’s overhead kick went over. Gregoritsch had another opportunity four minutes later, however his header was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Koen Casteels, before Sallai’s low drive was deflected wide for a corner (12’).

European soccer news: Dream goal for Real Madrid’s Güler

In Spain, we saw Real Madrid get closer to the LaLiga title following a 1-0 win against Real Sociedad, while over in Serie A there was a lackluster 0-0 draw between Juventus and AC Milan. Bayer Leverkusen remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga after a dramatic 2-2 draw with VfB Stuttgart, but the real spectacle was in Leipzig where Marco Rose’s side hit four past Borussia Dortmund.

BVB Wishing Tree campaign launches for 2023

Just like in previous years, Dortmund residents have the opportunity to make a Christmas wish come true for an economically disadvantaged child in the run-up to Christmas, with the help of a wish list. Organisations were invited to apply to take part in the campaign back in the summer. A total of 25 organisations registered, with over 2,300 children’s wishes submitted. Once the application phase was over, the blank wish lists were sent to the participating organisations and filled in by the children.

SV Werder Bremen

Strong performance in 1000th Bundesliga away game

SV Werder Bremen picked up their second consecutive win in the Bundesliga on matchday 31 as they ran out 3-1 winners against FC Augsburg at the WWK ARENA in their 1000th Bundesliga away game in the club’s history. Overall, SVW put in a very solid performance and scored the decisive goals through Romano Schmid (52’) and Marvin Ducksch (61’) in the second half following a goalless opening 45 minutes. Substitute Olivier Deman wrapped things up with a third goal in the last minute of regular time (90’).

FC Augsburg

Gouweleeuw: “We don’t deserve any points”

Ermedin Demirović: “It’s a painful loss. I’m really disappointed. We lacked the energy that usually gives us an edge today. We didn’t win enough challenges and struggled to create chances. It was a bit like we had a mental block today. It was clear that Werder wanted it more than us, which should never be the case. We’ve got three games left now and we’re aiming to bring our quality to the table again in all of them.”

Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: “We played really badly today. The first half wasn’t pretty. The disallowed Werder goal should’ve been a warning for us, but we were just as bad in the second half. After a performance like that, we don’t deserve any points. We don’t need to talk about the fact that we’ve passed up a massive opportunity today. The important thing now is that we learn from our mistakes and put in a completely different performance against Dortmund next week.”

Jess Thorup (FC Augsburg coach): “I’m really disappointed with this performance. I certainly didn’t see it coming. We definitely had hoped to play better than this on the back of our good home form. A game like this is therefore tough for me to take. We weren’t good enough both with and without the ball. We struggled to get things right at both ends of the pitch and didn’t play with any energy. I’ll have to watch the game back, but I’m struggling right now to find any positives. After these two defeats our aim is to get back on track across the final three matchdays. We will need to get back to the training ground and work hard to be able to do that.”

Ole Werner (SV Werder Bremen coach): “It was a great away performance and we left nothing to be desired as a team. We defended well and played really good football, even if we didn’t manage to create clear chances in the first half. Scoring from the set piece was important after the break, that broke the deadlock and allowed us to score more goals. We then had more space and took advantage of that. We can be really pleased with our performance today.”
