Dawid Kownacki will leave SV Werder Bremen to join second-division side Fortuna Düsseldorf until the end of the season. He signed for Werder from Düsseldorf in summer 2023. This was announced today by Peter Niemeyer, head of professional football.
“I’m definitely not going to apologize for winning the title and being happy about it. But when you think of the others, I’m sorry (for them) – even though they don’t want or need to hear it. I don’t really want to come off as big-hearted, but that’s tough for them. Everyone who is interested in German football must subliminally think that we don’t deserve this title. I even understand that, our second half of the season was chaotic. But this moment is still incredible for the squad. That’s something to remember.”
“Julian is a talented player who has demonstrated his abilities but his performances here in Hoffenheim have been subject to fluctuations, meaning that he has not been able to fully assert himself during his time with us,” said Frank Kramer, the interim Head of Sport at TSG, before adding that “Julian is a very ambitious player who is targeting significantly more playing time. For this reason, he has now approached us and expressed his desire to leave the club. We believe the transfer to Nürnberg to be an optimal solution for all parties. In terms of his character, Julian is a super lad and we wish him all the very best for his personal and sporting future.”

The final week of training before VfB’s Bundesliga opener is under way. Pascal Stenzel took time out from Tuesday’s open session in front of 1,850 fans to preview the trip to Freiburg.
Just like in life, this game is about chances. Let’s see if these names can grab theirs with conviction.
SV Werder Bremen are through to the second round of the DFB-Pokal after a 3-1 win at FC Energie Cottbus. A hat-trick from Keke Topp (32′, 37′, 55′) sealed the Green-White’s progression in front of 20,524 fans at the LEAG Energie Stadion. Former Werder player Henry Rorig was able to get one back for the hosts (70′).
Some celebrated the moves, others did not understand the sacking, while some others were left to wonder why the hell the club decided to make it official during the championship celebration (surely, one of the more odd moves in Bayern Munich’s illustrious history).
“Mo is a young and highly talented player who possesses a great deal of potential. However, he urgently needs game time at the highest-possible level for his ongoing development, which we currently cannot offer to him due to the competition for places in our squad,” said TSG’s interim Head of Sport, Frank, Kramer, who continued: “Following the loan to second-tier Hannover 96 last season, which did not go optimally for anyone involved, we’re now confident that we have found an outstanding solution for all parties in the form of another loan to SV Elversberg.”
