Within minutes of Bayern officially winning the title, it was reported that the club had announced they would be relieving both Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic of their duties; CEO and sporting director, respectively. For weeks, there had been significant speculation that either one of them, or both of them, would lose their jobs within the club’s front office, but now it’s confirmed. It’s set to be officially announced by the club tomorrow.

Renowned documentary film director and producer Annekatrin Hendel (her works include ‘Familie Brasch’, ‘Anderson’, ‘Vaterlandsverräter’) followed 1. FC Union Berlin with her camera for a good two years – from the Conference League summer of 2021 to the club’s entry into the Champions League in 2023. The almost two-hour film delves deep into the ‘engine room’ of 1. FC Union Berlin, where the management and staff work day in, day out to ensure the club’s success – regardless of which competition Union are currently competing in.

‘Many football films that are made with the clubs are basically PR films,” said Hendel, describing her approach to film-making. “This is not one of them. It’s a film made by me with my personal view of this team. Dirk Zingler told me: ‘We don’t want a film that we determine, we have blind spots ourselves.’ It was clear that I wasn’t someone who would do whatever someone else told me. In this respect, I would say that circled wagons met circled wagons. And that worked well.’

Talks on an extension will also begin soon with Tarek Brauer, while the newest member of the four-person team, Clemens Fritz, has already been given a long-term contract.
