Simon Jordan has slammed Erik ten Hag for complaining about Manchester United’s lack of funds after spending “£90million worth of crap” on Antony.

Ten Hag pursued the Brazilian winger for much of the 2022 summer transfer window having worked with him at Ajax.

After the Dutch side had sold several important players, such as Sebastian Haller and Ryan Gravenberch, they were reluctant to let Antony leave and managed to get around £90m for him from the Red Devils.

This signing was scrutinised from day one given the extortionate transfer fee, and the 23-year-old has failed to live up to the price.

He has not been that poor for United, but someone who sets a club back so much money is expected to perform a lot better.

Former Crystal Palace owner Jordan has been highly critical of Antony all season and once again singled him out when dismissing Ten Hag’s claims that United have not invested as heavily as their rivals.

The Dutch manager was referring to the winter transfer window after he spent over £200m last summer, breaking the club’s record for money spent in a single window.

In January, the Red Devils could only complete the loan signings of Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer.

“The club knows that if you want to play top four, if you want to compete for trophies in this tough league, you have to invest, otherwise you won’t progress because other clubs will,” Ten Hag said.

“We saw it in the winter. All the clubs around us invested. We didn’t and still we made it. So I am really happy and proud of my team.”

Jordan took exception to this, pointing out that he wasted a lot of money on Antony.

He told talkSPORT: “Okay, Ten Hag; you should have spent £170m in August and £50m in January, would that have suited you better?

Pressed by host Jim White on his previous criticism of the Brazilian international, Jordan responded: “Because he’s c**p. He’s £90m worth of c**p.

‘He (Ten Hag) spent £220m. What he said was, ‘The £220m, thank you I’ll have that, but what have you done for me lately. None of the reasons why I was unsuccessful in January is down to me. I have not made Antony and he has not delivered outcomes, but I got you to spend £90m on him.’”
