Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool will pay a mere £35m to land Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister thanks to a clause in his contract.
The Reds had been prepared to splash out £60m on the Argentine midfielder, but this price tag has almost been halved in the final deal.
and Liverpool will be pleased to have the deal wrapped up.
Romano has clarified the finer details of the transfer, which will see Liverpool pay a highly reduced fee.
“Liverpool have just signed Alexis Mac Allister for… £35m,” Romano reported on Twitter.
“Reds have now triggered the clause to sign the midfielder after medical tests completed with Brighton’s permission.
“Documents are being signed. Here we go confirmed.”
Signing the World Cup-winning midfielder for just £35m will surely go down as one of the bargain buys of the summer.
The reduced final price tag will also allow Liverpool to spend more money in other areas as they saved around £25m on this deal.
“Mac Allister signed a new deal last October, extending a contract that would have otherwise expired this summer, before helping Argentina win the World Cup in Qatar,” Joyce revealed.
“While it is unusual for Brighton to include a release clause in their player’s contracts, the fact remains he could have been available for free ‘without that agreement even if it appears his price tag could be below his current market value.”
Mac Allister will add plenty to Jurgen Klopp’s side next season. It’s no secret that they have been in need of a midfield overhaul for some time.
Winning an average of two tackles per game, Mac Allister is a great asset while out of possession.
Liverpool are expected to add another midfielder to their ranks this summer and are also in the market for defenders.
Given the disappointment of missing out on the top four, this Mac Allister deal will come as a massive boost to Klopp and his side.
