Potter rejects Leicester approach after Chelsea sacking as he waits for West Ham job

Leicester City wasted no time in attempting to lure Graham Potter to the King Power Stadium but the former Chelsea boss has turned them down, according to reports.

The Blues axed boss Potter, who succeeded Thomas Tuchel last September, on Sunday evening after 24 hours earlier, a result that left them with only four wins in their last 19 Premier League games and lying 11th in the table.

According to widespread reports, the decision to remove Potter was taken by Chelsea recruitment duo Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart with the unanimous backing of Todd Boehly and co-owner Behdad Eghbali.

And Potter has already been linked with other jobs with talkSPORT claiming that the former Chelsea boss has already ‘rejected an approach from Leicester’ to become their new manager after they sacked Brendan Rodgers.

Instead, Potter is ‘set to take a break from the game’ after ‘long-time admirers’ Leicester ‘reached out to his representatives’ in an effort to tempt him to the King Power.

Leicester have the worst record of any Premier League club since the resumption of the league following the break for the World Cup and Rodgers paid with his job.

And the Daily Telegraph claim: ‘Leicester could try again in the summer if the club stay up and have not appointed a permanent coach before then, while Crystal Palace will also appoint a new full-time manager at the end of the season.’

And Leicester aren’t the only club with an eye on Potter with West Ham, Crystal Palace and Tottenham all looking at new managers, while Potter will ‘certainly be a candidate’ for the Hammers position if Moyes leaves in the summer.

The Daily Telegraph continue:

‘Chelsea still rate Potter very highly and believe he will go on to prove himself a top coach, and the former Brighton man is unlikely to be short of offers over the coming months.

‘West Ham United will consider the future of David Moyes in the summer, whether or not the club remains in the Premier League, and Potter would certainly be a candidate the London club would consider to succeed the Scotsman.’

Chelsea interim boss Bruno Saltor concedes there is a sense of frustration over the lack of patience Graham Potter was given at Stamford Bridge, but he is focused on picking a starting line-up for the first time.

Bruno said: “Obviously there is a frustration because processes take time. All of us, we know the situation here and it is what it is.

“We need to focus on (Tuesday) and focus on Liverpool. Thinking about the past and what has happened before is not helping me now.

“I’ve been coaching for four years and I’ve been under Graham. He’s been the manager and always had the last word. It’s quite clear that’s not going to be the case now.

“(Tuesday) is going to be the first time (I pick the team). I feel good, it’s my duty, it’s a responsibility and I’m in a really important club and I want to try my best.”
