Ian Wright believes Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka would be the perfect signing for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

The 28-year-old Germany international joined Bayern from FC Schalke on a free transfer in 2018.

He has helped the Bavarians win four Bundesliga titles and the Champions League.

Goretzka has clearly utilised the gym facilities at his current club, bulking up a remarkable amount to help take his game to a different level.

At the age of 28, it feels unlikely that we will see him play in the Premier League during his prime years.

It would be an interesting move if Goretzka was to come to England, and Arsenal legend Wright reckons he should be pursued by his former club.

Mikel Arteta is expected to sign a new midfielder in the summer transfer window.

West Ham’s Declan Rice is reportedly their top target, though Chelsea and Manchester United are also said to be keen.

It promises to be a summer full of midfield transfers with Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham and Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong all attracting interest from top Premier League clubs.

Having said that, it would be a huge surprise if any English side pull off the signing of Goretzka.

Speaking on his Wrighty’s House podcast, the former Arsenal striker thinks the Gunners have what it takes to “entice” top players to the club given their incredible form this season.

Wright namedropped Goretzka as a player he would love to see Arteta “go and get”.

“In respects of that, with the Champions League and the fact that you know you’re going to earn good money on the deal, there’s enough to entice a top player to come,” Wright said.

“You can’t tell that that player wouldn’t look at what Arsenal are doing and not fancy that. You can’t tell me that, no way, they would all be intrigued.

“If it comes to a point where money is a problem then it’s not the right person for the dressing room.

“You have to make sure that the player Arsenal want to attract is experienced and of the same mind.”

Arsenal suffered a surprise on Thursday evening after losing on penalties to Sporting Lisbon.

The Portuguese giants performed very well over both legs as the two sides drew 2-2 in Lisbon and 1-1 in London.

The Gunners will now switch their focus to winning the Premier League. Their next match is against Crystal Palace – .
