Man Utd will include Cristiano Ronaldo in their squad to face FC Sheriff in the Europa League on Thursday, according to reports.

The Portugal international made it clear that he wanted to leave in the summer transfer window after the Red Devils failed to qualify for the Champions League.

A lack of interest saw him stay at Old Trafford with new Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag insisting that he saw him as part of his plans.

Ten Hag has used Ronaldo a lot in Europe but has only given the 37-year-old two starts in the Premier League.

And Ronaldo’s feelings came to the surface last week when he refused to come off the bench in their 2-0 Premier League victory over Tottenham before leaving the stadium early.

The Man Utd striker – who has again been linked with a move away from the club – was fined and told to train on his own following the incident with Man Utd releasing a statement ahead of the 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Saturday.

It read: “Cristiano will not be part of the Manchester United squad for this Saturday’s game against Chelsea. The rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that fixture.”

Ronaldo took to Instagram in the hours after the incident, he said: “As I’ve always done throughout my career, I try to live and play respectfully towards my colleagues, my adversaries and my coaches. That hasn’t changed. I haven’t changed. I’m the same person and the same professional that I’ve been for the last 20 years playing elite football, and respect has always played a very important role in my decision-making process.

“I started very young, the older and most experienced players’ examples were always very important to me. Therefore, later on, I’ve always tried to set the example myself for the youngsters that grew in all the teams that I’ve represented. Unfortunately, that’s not always possible and sometimes the heat of the moment gets the best of us.

“Right now, I just feel that I have to keep working hard in Carrington, support my teammates and be ready for everything in any given game. Giving in to the pressure is not an option. It never was. This is Manchester United, and united we must stand. Soon we’ll be together again.”

And The Athletic insist Ronaldo ‘will be included’ in their squad to face Sheriff after taking part in Tuesday’s squad training session at Carrington.

It is understood that Man Utd boss Ten Hag ‘wanted the issue to be resolved before United returned to training on Tuesday’.

The Athletic also add that injured trio Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Donny van de Beek all joined Ronaldo in training on Tuesday as they return to full fitness.
