Tottenham forward Lucas Moura has apologised for his sending off in last nights 1-1 draw against Everton and described the tackle as a ‘mistake’.

The Brazilian winger was sent off for a late challenge on Everton defender Michael Keane just six minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Spurs were leading 1-0 thanks to a Harry Kane penalty, and Everton were a man down themselves after Abdoulaye Doucoure was given a straight red for pushing Harry Kane in the face off the ball.

Following Moura’s red, , and denied Tottenham three points.

After the game, the 30-year-old Spurs player took to Instagram to apologise for his sending off.

He said: “There are good days and bad days, today is a bad day for me.

“No-one is more frustrated than me. I made a mistake and I accept that. I am not this kind of player and I didn’t mean to do that.

“Sometimes for the sake of milliseconds, something totally different happens than what you planned.

“I want to apologise to my team-mates, the staff, the fans and the club.

“I will keep working hard to help the team as much as I can until my last day at the club.”

Everton’s late goal cost interim Spurs boss Cristian Stellini the chance to make a winning start to life as Tottenham.

Stellini took over as full time coach after former boss Antonio Conte was sacked last month, and is looking to guide Spurs to the Champions League spots.

The point leaves Tottenham in the hunt for a top four finish and while they currently sit in fourth, above Manchester United on goal difference, The Red Devils now have two games in hand on the North London club.

Speaking after the match, the Italian said: “I think Harry Kane conceded a lot of tackles today and it was a red card.

“I also think Lucas Moura did a dangerous tackle and it was a red card.

“My feeling now is that we have lost two points this evening because with 11 men against 10 we have to control the game much better. We try to but not the way I expect.

“After our red card the power of the game was with them. They find an amazing goal and they draw the game. We have to do much better.”

Spurs will have the chance to get their league campaign back on track when they take on Brighton next Saturday, but will have to do it without Moura.
