Chelsea are looking for Man Utd to increase their offer for Mason Mount after the Red Devils bid £50m for his services, according to reports.
The Red Devils are looking to get off to a quick start ahead of the summer transfer window with Erik ten Hag hoping to bring in several new players to help take his side to the next level.
Ten Hag has done a good job in his first season at Old Trafford with the Dutchman guiding the Red Devils to a top-four finish in the Premier League, a Carabao Cup trophy and the final of the FA Cup.
but attention now turns to the summer market with England duo Mount and Harry Kane at the top of Ten Hag’s wishlist.
And the Daily Telegraph claim in their headline that Man Utd have now lodged a £50m offer for Kane before slightly backtracking to say it will be made at some point ‘this month’.
Man Utd are ‘progressing’ towards a deal for Mount with ‘personal terms not an issue’ as the Chelsea midfielder is open to joining, while the two clubs opened negotiations over a price on May 25.
The Daily Telegraph add:
‘United believe an offer of £50 million is a fair price for the England international who has endured a difficult campaign at Chelsea and crucially only has one more left on his contract.
‘Even so Chelsea are expected to demand substantially more for the academy product but United also know they need to sell this summer to reduce their squad size, balance their books and provide funds for their new head coach Mauricio Pochettino.’
Despite interest from Liverpool and Arsenal in Mount, ‘here is a growing confidence that he will sign for United’ as Ten Hag looks for a new ‘number eight’.
The report continues by saying that Man Utd will also ‘push Tottenham Hotspur to sell Harry Kane but currently believe it is unlikely to happen’.
Kane will have 12 months left on his contract at the end of June and now Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has to decide whether to remain stubborn over his stance not to sell to Premier League rivals or make as much as £100m on their star striker.
Tottenham ‘still remain hopeful’ that Kane will sign a new contract in north London but there is also the possibility that the England captain will run down his deal and leave for nothing next summer.
Manchester United sacked Erik ten Hag for a number of reasons but recruitment feels chief among them. His ten worst signings were made for almost £400m.
