Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly reportedly entered the dressing room to deliver a ‘rallying pep talk’ after the club’s 2-1 loss against Brighton.

The Blues suffered another defeat on Saturday as

This was Frank Lampard’s third game in charge since returning to the club following Graham Potter’s departure just seven months after he joined the Premier League outfit.

Lampard now has three losses in three games as they have also lost to Wolves and Real Madrid in recent days. Chelsea are now 11th in the Premier League and closer to the relegation zone than the Champions League places.

are 2-0 down on aggregate heading into Tuesday night’s Champions League quarter-final second leg at Stamford Bridge against Real Madrid.

Ahead of this game, The Telegraph have revealed that ‘Boehly delivered a pre-Real Madrid pep talk to Chelsea’s players in the Stamford Bridge dressing room’ after the loss to Brighton.

Behdad Eghbali and Hansjorg Wyss also ‘entered the home dressing room’. After Lampard offered his thoughts on the defeat, ‘Boehly addressed the squad and is understood to have described the current situation, in terms of results and Chelsea being in the bottom half of the Premier League table, as embarrassing’. The report adds.

‘Chelsea’s owners made sure Lampard had finished delivering his verdict before making their own presence felt in the dressing-room. But Boehly is said to have left the players in no doubt that he, Eghbali and Wyss had spent £600 million in the transfer market to win and that they have been falling short of expectations.

‘He also tried to strike a positive note, reiterating the fact that Tuesday night’s game against Real represents a chance to keep the season alive, end the embarrassment and give Chelsea’s fans something to be proud about.

‘While Boehly’s pep-talk may raise further questions over the scale of their involvement, the owners’ decision to enter the dressing room also represents an acknowledgement of their own responsibility in what has turned into a hugely challenging first season after buying the club from Roman Abramovich.’

Lampard is unlikely to be at Chelsea beyond this season as the club’s hierarchy are in the process of identifying a new permanent head coach.

On Monday morning, it was reported that Chelsea have held ‘in-person talks’ with Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique.
