Ancelotti pinpoints Klopp mistake which ‘cost’ Liverpool against Real Madrid

Liverpool crashed out of the Champions League against Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti has revealed where he thinks Jurgen Klopp got it wrong.

and they will now be considered as one of the favourites to go all the way in Europe.

Alisson Becker had to be kept on his toes throughout the evening as he made a total of six saves to keep the scoreline down.

Ancelotti gave his thoughts after the game and revealed how his side managed to get the better of Liverpool.

“I think we played and managed it well,” Ancelotti told reporters. “We didn’t defend with a low block and we tried to handle the ball well.

“We had opportunities and we were solid at the back. It’s the match we wanted.

“Pressing up has cost them. [Luka] Modric and [Toni] Kroos handle this type of match very well. They get the ball out very well from behind.

“I liked the team. On a psychological level, it is cheating. We had a three-goal lead and we haven’t slowed down on the accelerator.”

Liverpool knew they had to take risks to try and get back into the game, but Real Madrid dealt with their forward players well.

“Being 5-2 down is not a great result if you want to got through,” Klopp told BT Sport.

“You need to have a special performance and we couldn’t do that tonight. Real Madrid had the best chances, Alisson made two fantastic saves.

“The right team went through, we have to admit that. Knockout stages are like this. It’s not what we wanted but it’s what we got.

“If we draw at home and play like we did tonight, we probably go out as well. We cannot come here and hope that we get something. We prepared for a special performance tonight but it didn’t happen.

“Nobody thinks ‘how could Liverpool go out’ and that’s probably the best sign that the right team went through and that’s how it is in the knockout stage.”
