Jonathan Akaegbobi, or Bobi for short, is one of several youngsters who have been given regular opportunities to showcase their skills in training with the VfL first team, and thereby put themselves in the frame for a place in the Wolves’ Bundesliga matchday squad. In this interview, Akaegbobi shares his thoughts on training with the senior side, his goal in the friendly against Hannover 96 and being named in Ralph Hasenhüttl’s squad for the recent game against Bayern Munich.
Bobi, you started the friendly against Hannover and opened the scoring in the sixth minute. How happy were you with your performance?
Bobi: “That game was an important step in my development. I learned a lot, particularly in terms of decision-making and finishing. The fact that I scored our first goal too makes it even more significant.”
You’ve been a regular part of Ralph Hasenhüttl’s training squad for some time now. How hard have you found the transition?
Bobi: “This is the first time I’ve been involved in first-team training for an extended period of time, and I have to say it’s quite different in terms of the workload and intensity. In the early days in particular, there were a couple of times when I’d fall into bed exhausted after training. But I’ve since got used to the pace.”
