On Sunday (04.09.2022) 1. FC Union were drawn to play at home against 1. FC Heidenheim in the 2nd round of the DFB Pokal. Union, last year’s semi-finalists, beat Chemnitzer FC 2-1 after extra time in the first round.
Next to DFB President Bernd Neuendorf, Paralympic swimmer Josia Topf was there to draw the sides.
“Because of the amount of away games we have in the coming weeks, it’s good to be able to play at home”, said Oliver Ruhnert, Union’s Director of Professional Football on the draw. “We know Heidenheim well, they’ve had the same trainer for a long time, and are a top team in the second division. They’re a good opponent, and we’ll have to be very focussed.”
The tie will take place on the week of 18th / 19th October. Exact dates and timings of the fixture to follow.
