Sebastian Hoeneß: “The defeat obviously hurts, but I can’t really blame my team. I think we could have got more from the game if we’d taken our opportunities in the final third. We tried everything, but Atalanta were more clinical in attack and that made the difference today. At the end of the day, these are the kind of things you experience against quality opposition in the UEFA Champions League.”
Chris Führich: “The only difference in the end was that Atalanta got their goals and we didn’t. We put everything into the game, but Atalanta were very strong defensively and clinical in attack. We can learn a lot from this game and will now focus on Eintracht Frankfurt, our next opponents in the Bundesliga.”
Maxi Mittelstädt: “We were playing against a very good side and one of Europe’s in-form teams. Our opponents demanded everything from us. We worked hard but were unable to take our chances, which makes it difficult against opponents like this. Atalanta don’t need many opportunities [to score] and showed just that. We need to learn to become more efficient in attack at this level.”
