Last Saturday’s 3-0 home victory over Eintracht Frankfurt was a landmark occasion for Leonidas Stergiou, who played the full 90 minutes at the MHP Arena for the first time this season. The 22-year-old Swiss was part of a VfB backline that kept a clean sheet for the tenth time in 2023/24.
The defender has been one of the reasons for VfB’s success this term; always there when needed and always a reliable presence on the pitch, making 11 Bundesliga appearances so far and a further three in the DFB Cup.
“That’s one of the qualities of our coaching staff – that they prepare us all really well, regardless of who’s playing, so that everyone can deliver when needed,” said Stergiou. “We’ve got a lot of great characters in the team and they make it easy for players like me to integrate straight away when we come into the side. The team deserves credit for that. I’ve been able to benefit a lot from my team-mates.”
After a couple of days off, on Wednesday Stergiou and his colleagues began working towards Sunday’s trip to SV Werder Bremen (kick-off 15:30 CEST). “We’ll need to be really well prepared for the game and ready to give 100 percent,” he concluded.”
