Guirassy equalled Mario Gomez’s club record of 24 goals in a Bundesliga season with his winner at Borussia Dortmund last weekend. The striker, who struck five times in March, found the net in every top-flight game last month and even scored twice in the 3-2 triumph at VfL Wolfsburg.

It’s no surprise, therefore, that the Guinean joins Alejandro Grimaldo (Bayer Leverkusen), Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane (both FC Bayern Munich), Xavi Simmons and David Raum (both RB Leipzig) on the shortlist for the Player of the Month award, which was established by the German Football League (DFL) in 2018/19.
