It was a fitting end to the season at the MEWA ARENA. The draw against Eintracht was almost of secondary importance as we said farewell to a Mainz legend. Daniel Brosinski played his final game for Mainz and he received a standing ovation as he was subbed off in the 71st minute. The 33,000 fans inside the MEWA ARENA provided a great atmosphere in the season finale. Mainz are finishing the season in eighth place with 46 points.

Reaction from the MEWA ARENA

Daniel Brosinski: I have hardly played in the last four months so I had to get myself up to speed for this game,” said the stalwart, who gave a speech to the fans after the game. “I can still run so it is not over. Everything has now been settled after eight years. Playing abroad, in the USA for example, is something that I can imagine doing. I have learnt so much. Above all, that you must never give up and that hard work always pays off. I have to say a massive thankyou to all of you. This is a better send off than I could ever have imagined.

Alexander Hack: We started the game well, pressed well and created some early chances. After that, we slackened a little bit and Frankfurt could come into our half by just making simple passes. We spoke about what we didn’t do well. We wanted to win but also stay solid at the back. We created the chances and we are overall happy with a point. We have finished in eighth place and we are delighted with that, even if it is a little sad that Europe got away from us. We didn’t have enough consistency for Europe in the end, which wasn’t helped by Corona.

Brosi’s farewell was really sad but also fitting. We gave him the best possible send off and we will celebrate with him tonight. He has friends and family here at Mainz and he has done so much for the club.

Jean-Paul Boëtius: We need to wait and see what happens. I don’t see myself moving to another club in Germany. After four years here, I’m ready for a new challenge and culture. I have experienced a lot here, from relegation battles to learning a new position, and have proven that I can make a difference in this league.
