RB Leipzig have been knocked out of the Champions League after a 7-0 defeat in the second leg of the last 16 against Manchester City. The first leg had ended in a 1-1 draw in Leipzig.
The hosts started the game at rapid speed and Janis Blaswich was called into action to stop an effort from Erling Halaand (11’). Haaland gave City the lead a little later on after the referee awarded the hosts a questionable penalty for a handball by Benjamin Henrichs (22’).
Haaland completed his hat trick before the break with a rebound header in the 24th minute and a close range finish on the brink of half time. Shortly after the restart, City captain Ilkay Gündogan found the bottom right corner from the edge of the area (49’), before Haaland added two more goals from two corners (53’, 57’), before Kevin De Bruyne hit an effort into the top corner from outside the area late on (90’+2).

The hosts have enjoyed the better start to the game here but we’re still level.
A goalmouth scramble follows a corner in the Leipzig box, but we’re able to clear it away.
21ST MINUTE, PENALTY FOR MAN CITY:
The referee halts play and goes to look at the goalmouth action again, then awards a penalty to Man City and issues a yellow card to Benjamin Henrichs for a handball. That’s a dubious decision…
22ND MINUTE, GOAL FOR MAN CITY:
Haaland steps up and finishes to the right. Blaswich went the right way but couldn’t stop it.
24TH MINUTE, GOAL FOR MAN CITY:
City double their lead instantly. De Bruyne hits the bar from 20 metres and Haaland heads in the rebound.
The game has completely changed in the blink of an eye, but there’s still a lot of football to be played!
RBL play a ball forward looking for Laimer who gets there ahead of Ederson, who came rushing out of his goal. The goalkeeper brings down Laimer and gets none of the ball. The referee doesn’t award a free kick or talk to the goalkeeper, then books Werner for his reaction.
An error from City leads to a half chance for RBL. Laimer quickly looks for Werner, but he can’t bring the ball under control.
Blaswich makes a great save to deny Gündogan.
45+2ND MINUTE, GOAL FOR MAN CITY:
Dias heads towards goal from a corner and Blaswich saves, but Haaland turns it over the line after a bit of a scramble.
Man City are three ahead at the break.

City get another. Grealish finds Gündogan on the edge of the area and he finds the bottom corner with a good finish across goal.
53RD MINUTE, GOAL FOR MAN CITY:
Another City corner and another goal for the hosts. Blaswich pulls off a pair of saves to deny Haaland and Akanji, but the ball unfortunately falls to Haaland again and he finds the back of the net.
57TH MINUTE, GOAL FOR MAN CITY:
Haaland has another. Blaswich makes another save from a corner but again the ball falls to the City number nine and he makes no mistake from close range.
Marco Rose makes a triple change. Simakan, Silva and Poulsen replace Haidara, Forsberg and Werner. At the same time, Haaland comes off after five goals.
One thing to be pleased about from an RBL perspective: Dani Olmo is on for the remainder of the game as he steps up his return to action. He replaces Dominik Szoboszlai.

De Bruyne finds space on the edge of the area and hits a right-footed effort into the top corner.
A very convincing win for the hosts.
