RB Leipzig have been knocked out of the Champions League after a 7-0 defeat in the second leg of the last 16 against Manchester City. The first leg had ended in a 1-1 draw in Leipzig.
The hosts started the game at rapid speed and Janis Blaswich was called into action to stop an effort from Erling Halaand (11’). Haaland gave City the lead a little later on after the referee awarded the hosts a questionable penalty for a handball by Benjamin Henrichs (22’).
Haaland completed his hat trick before the break with a rebound header in the 24th minute and a close range finish on the brink of half time. Shortly after the restart, City captain Ilkay Gündogan found the bottom right corner from the edge of the area (49’), before Haaland added two more goals from two corners (53’, 57’), before Kevin De Bruyne hit an effort into the top corner from outside the area late on (90’+2).
