Despite a slow start to the group, we have reached the round of 16 in the Champions League! A 4-0 win against Shakhtar Donetsk secured us second place in Group F behind Real Madrid.

A key winning run

We were sat last in the group following defeats to Shakhtar (4-1 H) and Real Madrid (2-0 A) to start.

However, the lads produced an incredible turnaround with four consecutive wins over Celtic (2-0 A, 3-1 H), Real Madrid (3-2 H) and then finally Shakhtar (4-0 A).

Our results in Group F

A third appearance in the knockouts

This is the third time that we have made the knockouts in the Champions League in five campaigns, previously achieving this feat in 2019/20 (semi-finals) and 2020/21 (round of 16).

Draw on Monday at 12:00 CET

Leipzig’s opponents for the round of 16 will be drawn on Monday, 7th November in Nyon (Switzerland).

As well as RB Leipzig, three other German clubs – FC Bayern, Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt – have made it through.

The Bundesliga and the Premier League therefore have the most teams still in the competition (4). Italy have three, Portugal two and Spain, Belgium and France just one each.

The eight group winners:

  • Real Madrid (Spain)
  • Napoli (Italy)
  • FC Porto (Portugal)
  • FC Bayern (Germany)
  • Tottenham Hotspur (England)
  • Chelsea (England)
  • Manchester City (England)
  • Benfica (Portugal)

The eight second-place sides:

  • RB Leipzig (Germany)
  • Liverpool (England)
  • Club Brugge (Belgium)
  • Inter Milan (Italy)
  • Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany)
  • AC Milan (Italy)
  • Borussia Dortmund (Germany)
  • Paris Saint-Germain (France)

How the draw works:

There will be two pots for the draw. In pot 1 will be the eight group winners (seeded sides) and the eight second-place teams in pot 2 (unseeded sides).

No side can be drawn against the other side from their group or from their same nation. That means that RBL can definitely not face Real Madrid, Bayern, Dortmund or Frankfurt.

The group winners will play at home in the second legs.
