“The time in Hoffenheim was very formative for me. I grew up,” says the first-ever guest, Andreas Beck. In an in-depth interview with Konstantin Krüger, head of media management at TSG, the former captain reflects on his playing career. The former Germany international (nine caps) describes Ralf Rangnick as his “most important supporter. The discussions with Ralf were decisive for me and my move to TSG at the time. We are still in contact today.”

Beck ended his footballing career at the age of 35 after 537 professional appearances as a right-back in Germany, Turkey and latterly with KAS Eupen in Belgium. Back then, he had a reputation for being thoughtful and having a wide range of interests. He hopes to use his experience and perspective to make his mark in football management in the future. In order to prepare himself for this “exciting task”, the father of three is currently completing a course with UEFA. “I’m very eager to learn and want to soak up everything. I’ve sought advice from Sami Khedira and Simon Rolfes, who have told me very positive things about the programme.”

The 37-year-old now seeks out his sporting challenges in ultra-marathon runs, which he completes together with his father and brother. “Andy” Beck has several training sessions a week on the agenda. “I love the sporting routine and challenging my body. During the ultra runs, I have to push my limits, which is something I’m familiar with from my playing days,” says Beck, who also remembers Franck Ribéry as his most unpleasant opponent in the TSG podcast. “An absolutely exceptional player. He made life difficult for me because he was always elite on defence as well.”

The TSG podcast can be found on all major platforms and on the club’s website. “Ein Dorf ist die Welt” is intended to take fans and all interested listeners deeper into the world of TSG, make connections, initiate discussions and bring to light things that are unknown or forgotten.

“It’s an appealing audio offering that is part of a balanced communications mix and is therefore an overdue addition to our wide range of publications, from digital channels, to TSG.TV and the club magazine SPIELFELD. We won’t be making the podcast with rose-coloured glasses, we want to regularly deliver exciting content that doesn’t dodge controversial topics and that goes beyond the TSG horizon,” says TSG communications director Christian Frommert.
