Thomas Delaney: “After Kasper Dolberg’s goal, we applied pressure and pressed higher but gave away too many chances. We didn’t have control over the match; we need to work on that. Unfortunately, I have had little game time in recent months and have only rarely been able to train, I’m still lacking form. I hope I can help TSG with my intensity and my passion.”

Oliver Baumann: “The team is intact. We want to be compact and make an impact going forward, but we’re conceding goals too easily. We need to correct this extremely quickly; otherwise, we’ll have some real difficulties. We came back – and then conceded another goal immediately. That happens to us too often. It’s disappointing.”

Christoph Baumgartner: “We wanted to be very compact at the back and then repeatedly make an impact via counters in order to make the game difficult for Leipzig. Then what happened was of course exactly what we didn’t want. They go for goal for the first time after eight minutes and immediately score. After that, it was a hard game for us. It would’ve done us good to keep a clean sheet for longer. It was not spectacular from us, but we came back. We tried to throw everything at it, but we’re currently going through a phase where things just don’t work out. We have our chances in every game; there were very few today, but you have to convert them. We have to earn the rub of the green. If we get a successful result, the world will look different again. We have an important game in Bochum on Saturday.”

André Breitenreiter (TSG Hoffenheim coach): “It was an absolutely deserved win for RB Leipzig today. We chose a more defensive approach today. We went about that very well in the first half, but it came at the expense of our attacking efforts. We were too passive for the first goal we conceded, then we lost the decisive challenge for the second. We wanted to get back to our pressing game in the second half; we became more stable as a result and then pulled a goal back. We then had a huge opportunity to restore parity; perhaps then the game would’ve completely turned in our favour, even if it wouldn’t have been deserved. A simple loss of possession, which happens far too frequently to us, leads to the goal for 3-1. That decided the game.”
