Three return as the training week begins
On Monday afternoon, the Foals began their preparations for the away game at Borussia Dortmund on Saturday (15:30 CET). Three returned to team training in the shape of Moritz Nicolas, Jordan and Yvandro Borges Sanches.
The Foals used their weekend off to recharge their batteries. At the start of the new training week this Monday afternoon, the focus shifted fully onto the coming away game at Borussia Dortmund on Saturday (15:30 CET). “It’s always a challenge to play there. We know that Dortmund have a lot of quality, both in attack and as a whole. But we look forward to every game,” says head coach Gerardo Seoane. “The challenge is that we won’t have everyone back on the pitch here until Tuesday, so we only have a short time to prepare for this game.”
Nine Borussia players are still on international duty: Tomáš Čvančara (Czechia), Max Wöber (Austria), Nico Elvedi (Switzerland), Grant-Leon Ranos (Armenia), Joe Scally (USA), Luca Netz and Rocco Reitz (both Germany U21), Simon Walde (Germany U19) and Fabio Chiarodia (Italy U19). Seoane is also missing Tony Jantschke (thigh), Lukas Ullrich (shoulder operation), Ko Itakura (ankle operation), Hannes Wolf (meniscus tear), and Jonas Omlin (recovering from a shoulder operation).
After their respective periods out with injury, Jordan and Yvandro Borges Sanches were meanwhile partially integrated into team training today. Goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas also returned after recovering from an infection. Stefan Lainer is also set to return to training. The right-back, who was diagnosed with lymphoma in July, has successfully completed the therapy that he had been undertaking over the past few months.
Tomorrow (Tuesday), Seoane will again lead his team onto the training pitch in the morning (10:30 CET) and into the Performance Center for strength training in the afternoon. On Wednesday (public) and Thursday (not public), the Foals will also train at 10:30 CET, and the final session before the away game at BVB on Saturday will take place behind closed doors on Friday at 14:30 CET.
