The reactions to the match against Hertha BSC from Nico Schlotterbeck, Marius Wolf, Marco Reus, Julian Brandt and, of course, head coach Edin Terzic.

Nico Schlotterbeck (to BVB-TV): “We won 4-1 but it was not a good game from us. We gave a lot away and had too little control over the game. We were very tired from the Chelsea match. We have to take wins like this and go on the attack again against Hoffenheim next week. Fortunately, we were efficient today.”

Marius Wolf (to BVB-TV): “We’re happy that we won. We didn’t start the game well and had too many losses of possession in the middle. The game was a battle. The fact it was so clear-cut in the end does not reflect the balance of play. But we were there at the right moments. We knew that we’d get our chances and cleared our lines tidily at the end.”

Marco Reus (to DAZN): “Before the winter break, nobody expected things would get so tight at the top of the table. We’ve started a run which we continued today. We want to keep riding on this wave and in the end we’ll see where that takes us. But you can also see that you cannot allow yourself to concede a centimetre of ground; otherwise it gets difficult. We’re not playing the stars out of the sky, but we’re effective. I’m happy I was able to score from a free-kick for the first time in a long time.”

Julian Brandt (to DAZN): “It’s a nice feeling that we were able to extend our run, especially as this round of matches generally went in our favour. We still have a long road ahead of us, but so do Union and Bayern. We’ve done extremely well to fight our way out of our situation before the winter break. I’m most delighted today for Marco Reus, who scored a wonderful goal.”

Edin Terzic (at the press conference): We had a lot of unnecessary losses of possession in the middle and then switched it around in our build-up play with one additional player in the middle. As a result, we took control of the match and went in 2-0 up at the break, but we didn’t start the second half well as we did not go into the tackles with the same toughness as we have recently. That was significantly better in our previous matches. The win was important and it was also deserved in my opinion.”
