Paris Brunner and Charles Herrmann were in the starting line-up as the Germany U17 national team made a successful start to the World Cup in Indonesia by beating Mexico 3-1 in their opening group game. Almugera Kabar also made an appearance.

Charles Herrmann assisted the goals for 1-0 by Noah Darvich (29) and 3-0 by Eric da Silva Moreira (53) in exemplary fashion, either side of initiating the goal for 2-0 by Max Moerstedt. Paris Brunner proved to be a real headache for the Mexican defence and was denied by the opposition goalkeeper following a spectacular solo run in the 57th minute. Herrmann was named the “Man of the Match” by FIFA after the game.

“We’re very satisfied, that was a good start,” said a delighted Germany coach Christian Wück, who brought on Dortmund left-back Almugera Kabar in the closing stages. The latter suffered a serious ligament injury at the beginning of September and made his comeback at the World Cup.

The DFB team will play their second group game against New Zealand on Wednesday. (wiwi)
