Borussia Dortmund versus 1. FC Köln. The two clubs rich in tradition will go head-to-head in the Bundesliga for the 94th time. We’ve compiled all the most important information on the west-of-Germany match-up below. 

The scenario: Second against twelfth. The Black & Yellows have picked up 25 from a possible 27 points in their nine games since the winter break, while Köln have only managed a solitary point from their last four games. BVB have won just one of their last five meetings with the FC: last season’s home match.

Home & away: Borussia are averaging 2.55 points per home game this season and have dropped points in Dortmund on just two occasions (a 3-2 loss to Werder Bremen and a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich). Each of the last six home games has ended with three points on the board. The visitors from Cologne have failed to win any of their last nine away games. Their last road win dates back to 3 September, when they notched up a 4-2 victory in Wolfsburg. No other club has picked up more draws away from home: six of Köln’s road games have ended with the spoils shared.

Head-to-head record: After a record-breaking unbeaten home run against the same club (20 wins without defeat; 16 wins and four draws), BVB finally fell to a 2-1 defeat against Köln in the 2020/21 season. The visitors have only won seven of their 46 away games in Dortmund (15%). They even have a better winning record away to Bayern Munich (18%).

Statistics: Borussia Dortmund have notched up more victories than any other team in the league, winning 16 of their 24 matches thus far. The team’s total of 30 goals conceded is considerably lower than at the same point last season (37). Only Freiburg have kept more clean sheets (10) than Dortmund (9). The visitors from Cologne have a tally of 27 points – significantly fewer than at the same time last season (36). No team have failed to net on more occasions than Köln (11 matches without a goal scored).
