VfL Bochum are continuing to grow in the international market. Together with their local partner, Great Falls Reston Soccer Club, VfL have their first engagement in the USA. The club started a relationship with the focus on youth development. In the last weeks, Bochum hosted several digital live sessions for Great Falls Reston players and coaching clinics. The collaboration will continue in the coming months. Alongside this, former players of the club, like Dariusz Wosz, will take part in Q&A sessions and share their experience with the kids.
“We are very excited to team up with a Bundesliga first division club. We believe this is a great opportunity for our players and coaches to continue to learn and grow. Bochum comes with a wealth of experience and a reputation for developing soccer players. We’re hoping to foster a long-term relationship that allows players and coaches to visit with the German club and get first-hand experience with the game at a high level” said Kurt Borel, Technical Director from Great Falls Reston Soccer Club.
Great Falls were established in 1976, with Reston coming a year later in 1977. Both clubs operated separately as Reston Soccer Association and Great Falls Soccer club until four years ago. But, in 2018 the two clubs decided to merge and become one. The club has developed several players who have gone on to play and study at some of America’s best universities. Beyond university-level, some of the club’s players have gone on to play at the highest levels – professionally in the MLS, Spain, Greece, the Czech Republic and in Germany. This shows the club’s great work, adding value to those players’ natural ability and mentality.
Christoph Wortmann, member of the executive board at VfL Bochum, said: “We are very proud to get started with such a great partner in the USA. With our brand identity, to be down-to-earth, approachable, and authentic, we want to deliver the best possible results and share our experiences.
