U19s begin with 6-0 friendly victory

Less than three weeks have passed since the end of the season for the former U19 of VfL Bochum 1848, and already the team is looking ahead. In the first preparatory match for the new season, the newly formed U19 won a commanding 6-0 against VfB Waltrop.

This is how the game went:

A perfect start to the preparation for the 2022/23 season. In the first half, U19 coach Heiko Butscher mainly let his team’s former youngsters have a go, who are now among the more experienced players. The Blue and Whites were very determined and straightforward. So it was not surprising that Tunahan Yardimci scored with a rich finish early on to take the lead (11.). Less than two minutes later, Florian Berisha increased the lead to 2:0 (13.). It was noticeable that the Bochum eleven is largely well-rehearsed.

Mohammed Tolba, who has been named the new captain, lurked at the far post from a free kick and made it 3:0 (31st). After strong preliminary work by Artur Golubytskij, Berisha scored his second goal – 4:0 (33.). Golubytskij then also rewarded himself with a goal (40th), Leon Tasov put the crown on the impressive first half – 6:0 (45th).

At the start of the second half, Butscher made a lively change. Many former U17 players made their debut in VfL’s top youth team. There were no more goals – the score remained 6-0 – but the way in which the new talents performed was very impressive. All in all, a great start to the preparation.

What the coach said:

Heiko Butscher: “It was important to me that we could conclude an intensive week of preparation directly with a game and that we also see all the new players. That way, you get a feel for coaching the new guys and whether they have already internalized our principles. It’s quite normal that not everything works right away. It was okay for the first game, and I’m absolutely satisfied with the guys’ commitment. We played to zero, which is also important because the defense has to be right. There were many good actions, we can build on that.
