Thomas Reis (Head Coach VfL Bochum 1848): Congratulations to 1. FSV Mainz 05 and Bo Svensson. We saw two different halves, we needed a quarter of an hour to get into the game. Mainz were very aggressive with a high pressing line. Nevertheless, we only allowed them scoring opportunity and gradually got better into the game. We didn’t take advantage of the penalty today. After that, we had two or three good transitions, which we didn’t make of enough. All in all, more would have been possible, but we let ourselves be bullied in the second half. The chance by Jürgen Locadia was well saved by Robin Zentner at the end. We now have to dust ourselves off and learn from experience. On Tuesday in the cup, I expect a similarly hard-fought match with a close result.

Bo Svensson (Head Coach 1. FSV Mainz 05): Thank you for the congratulations, Thomas. You’ve summed up the game well. Our opening phase was good. After that, Bochum were better. They were more agile, found the spaces and their lead would have been deserved. At half-time, we talked about a few things and came back better. We were the better team in the second half. We are very happy to have won a very evenly balanced game.

Anthony Losilla: We simply didn’t take our chances today. That made the difference. It was a game with many intense battles. We did a good job overall, but we weren’t precise enough in the final third of the pitch to score a goal. It’s annoying because we could have taken a point today. We’ll give everything again in the cup match on Tuesday and want to get another win at home.

Milos Pantovic: Based on the first half, a point would have been possible. But we can’t complain about losing here either. In the first half, we allowed them little or nothing. Unfortunately, we didn’t play out our chances well enough when going forward. The goal we conceded came at the worst possible time and we had to chase their lead all the time.

Sebastian Polter: We’re angry because we threw away points here. We had many chances and were relatively accurate in the final third, the finishes were there. But the ball rarely hit the target, and we need to work on that. It’s annoying that I missed the penalty. But that’s part of football, we’re only human. The Cup has its own rules, and we want to get a better result then. We’ll be playing at home and I’m totally convinced that we’ll put in a strong performance.
