Uduokhai: “Dominated the game, unfortunately couldn’t get the win”
Reaction to the 1-1 draw against Köln
FC Augsburg had to settle for a 1-1 draw against 1. FC Köln on matchday 27. Here is the post-match reaction.
Arne Maier: “Although we’re now unbeaten in five games, we’re going home with mixed feelings. We were the better team, had more chances and dominated the game in the second half in particular – we desperately wanted the win and threw everything at them at the end. Ultimately, we were just lacking a bit of luck. Nonetheless, it’s another point gained and we’ll take the positives as we look to the future now.”
Felix Uduokhai: “We’re somewhat disappointed that we didn’t win the game. We had a lot of good chances, played really well until we got to the final third, where the final ball often wasn’t good enough. Despite all this, the point is still important – we had a few moments where we were pretty open at the back as they countered us. Our confidence keeps on growing with every game. We dominated Köln and were in control of the match, but unfortunately couldn’t get the win. We’re really enjoying our football at the moment.”
Phillip Tietz: “We knew it would be a tough game today, but we performed really well. The ball just simply wouldn’t go in for a second goal, it was just one of those days. We obviously wanted more in front of our own fans, but ultimately, it’s another point and we’re now undefeated in five games. That just shows that what we’re doing at the minute is good.”
Kevin Mbabu: “We had control of today’s game and missed a lot of chances, which is why we’re obviously disappointed. That’s football though – we’re still unbeaten in five games and can look ahead full of positivity.”
Jess Thorup (FC Augsburg head coach): “We tried to win the game from the very first to the last minute and unfortunately couldn’t manage to. We totally dominated the second half, spent lots of time in their half and put a lot of crosses in. At the same time though, they had a few dangerous counter-attacks and we could have lost the game from these. We were the better team over the course of the 90 minutes though.”
Timo Schultz (1. FC Köln head coach): “It was a really, really intense game. We came here aiming to get all three points. The lads gave their all from the first to the last minute and had a few decent attacks, but we unfortunately couldn’t finish a few promising moves off. We still scored a nice goal and defended really well during their period of pressure. We didn’t want another draw, but obviously we’ll gladly take a point back to Cologne.”
