Frederik Winther moves to Sweden
Premature end to loan deal
FC Augsburg have agreed upon a premature termination of Frederik Winther’s loan deal with Portuguese first-division side GD Estoril Praia. The 23-year-old is set to move to Swedish side Klub Hammarby IF with immediate effect. The transfer was still possible at this time because the transfer window in Sweden only closed yesterday at midnight unlike in Germany. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose the fee, but FCA have secured a buy-back option.
Winther, who moved to Augsburg from Lyngby BK in October 2020, made seven competitive appearances for the Fuggerstädter in total. The centre-back made two of his seven competitive appearances in the DFB-Pokal, whilst he also featured five times in the Bundesliga. Winther spent five months on loan at Bröndby IF in his native Denmark last season, before moving to Portugal on loan this season. He made two appearances, including one start for the side currently sitting 14th in the Primeira Liga.
“We hoped that Frederik would get the necessary game time for an ideal development with the loan to Estoril. Unfortunately, the loan didn’t go as we imagined. Therefore, we fulfilled the player’s wish to terminate this deal prematurely and give him the opportunity to move to Hammarby and join a well-known club in Sweden. Frederik should have a key role in central defence in Hammarby. We will continue to follow his development closely in the next few months and we wish him every success in his future career,” said FCA’s sporting director Marinko Jurendic.
