Patric Pfeiffer joins Young Boys on loan
One-year loan spell in Bern
Patric Pfeiffer will spend the upcoming season with the defending Swiss champions, BSC Young Boys. The 24-year-old centre-back, who was rested during FCA’s final pre-season friendly against Olympique Marseille ahead of being able to return to training this week, joins on a year-long loan. Both clubs have agreed to keep the details of the loan undislosed.
Opportunity to gather experience in Europe
Pfeiffer, who arrived in Augsburg on a free from Darmstadt last season and went on to feature 11 times in the Bundesliga for FCA, will now head to Bern in search of more playing time. The defender will also have the opportunity to gather experience in Europe, with Young Boys set to face Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League play-offs at the end of August.
“Following an open and constructive dialogue with those in charge, I’m convinced that this is the best option to continue my development. It’s a great opportunity to gather important minutes for a strong team like Young Boys. I’m also excited to be able to take part in a European competition and experience playing abroad, in order to return to Augsburg even stronger next season,” said Pfeiffer, whose contract with FCA runs until 30th June 2027.
“Last season, Patric was able to see his first minutes in the Bundesliga. He has everything needed in order to take up an important role at FCA. Following constructive talks with all those involved, we arrived at the mutual conclusion that a loan to an ambitious club competing in Europe where Patric will be able to play regularly, would make the most sense for both parties. The aim is for Patric to gather experience playing at a high level for Young Boys, as well as featuring in Europe. We wish him all the best for a successful and good time at BSC Young Boys,” said FCA sporting director Marinko Jurendic.
