VfB Stuttgart came from behind to earn a 3-1 victory at home to VfL Wolfsburg.
“CG – CLUB of GENTS stands for the lifestyle of freedom and adventure. Expressed in music we are Britpop and guitar rock. We also felt this atmosphere at Union and immediately felt at home. That we are now going on the road together, we are very happy. After the spontaneous start this summer, we will now put our creative heads together and let Union’s individuality become visible in our next projects,” says Ralph Böhm, General Manager of Création Gross GmbH & Co. KG on the partnership.
VfL Wolfsburg recorded a 2-1 win at home to UEFA Champions League participants Union Berlin in their first game back following the international break. Two Danish players got the goals for the Green-and-Whites: Jonas Wind (12’) struck his fifth league goal of the season, while newcomer Joakim Maehle (30’) scored for the Wolves for the first time. Robin Gosens (28’) was on target for Union, who were unable to prevent VfL continuing their strong home record against the club from the capital.
Niko Kovac’s side are in action again on Saturday 23 September when they travel to Borussia Dortmund on Bundesliga Matchday 5 (kick-off 15:30 CEST).
“We’re not finished yet. We still have two tasks ahead of us. We definitely have some amends to make away and then we have another home game. Then we’ll see where that ultimately gets us in our role as hunters,” explained the coach to Sky after the 5-2 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach. Bayern Munich top the table with 68 points and have a far superior goal difference (+55) than Borussia Dortmund (67 / +36). BVB therefore need to win both games and hope Bayern do not win either against Leipzig or in Cologne on the final day. The game yesterday confirmed that Borussia cannot finish outside of the top two. But they want more. “I’m dreaming of the Championship Shield,” revealed Donyell Malen.

Despite the current focus in Bremen being on the upcoming Bundesliga fixture away to Borussia Dortmund, a number of the Green-Whites are still involved in international action. Jiri Pavlenka, who didn’t end up making an appearance in the Czech Republic’s 1-0 win over the Faroe Islands, is the second international to return to Bremen on Monday after Nick Woltemade.
“We took the time we needed after the first seven games and the defeat at home to Darmstadt to look at our current sporting situation and the development of our team. Following open conversations with Enrico Maaßen, we believe that we needed to change our head coach. Despite all their commitment and hard work, Enno and the team haven’t managed to buck the trend and be successful on the pitch,” stated sporting director Marinko Jurendic.
The Dutch defender got off to a slow start as he improved his fitness, but has now fully ingrained himself into the squad — and also the club’s culture.
Maximilian Eggestein is particularly looking forward to the atmosphere in the stadium: “We expect a hostile environment – it was impressive last year,” the midfielder recalled. The Olympiacos fans have had reason to be in good voice as of late given that their team has been performing well. Diego Martinez’s side have won three and drawn one (against title holders AEK Athens) of their opening four games in the Greek Super League, scoring ten goals and conceding none.
