Sebastian Hoeneß discusses the home match against VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday, 15:30 CEST. The MHPArena is sold out.
Andre Vilk’s U19s have prepared for the new league season with tough matches against Hertha, Bayern Nürnberg, 1860 and Energie Cottbus. Union beat local rivals Hertha 4-2 and managed to fight for a 1-1 draw at Nürnberg. The strong academy team of 1860 won 2-1 during the pre-season camp in Austria before they headed for the red side of Munich. Union put in a strong performance, but ultimately went down 3-5 to Bayern. The last outing saw Union draw 2-2 with Cottbus.
“Indescribable, just mega,” were the first words from Dana Bleckmann immediately after receiving her medal. “It’s just a really great feeling and a well-deserved reward for all the work we put into the European League this season.” From the very first second of the third-place play-off, you could sense it in the hall that Henk Groener’s girls had come to win the bronze medal.

Naby Keïta is set for a spell on the sidelines, after suffering a minor muscle injury in his right thigh against TSG Hoffenheim on 7th October.
The home end is completely sold out ahead of clash between the 14th and 15th placed sides, with around 1,500 fans expected to travel from Darmstadt. Enrico Maaßen was looking forward to playing in front of a full house (“It’ll give us a boost”) and said, “We want to get three points at home. We’ll give it everything we’ve got and bring the passion from the stands onto the pitch.” The 39-year-old is also backing FCA to “finally” keep a clean sheet this season and be defensively stable.
Although FCA are unbeaten at home, they are still having trouble on the road. They fell to a 2-0 defeat away to Freiburg last week. “We talked about the game, we definitely could’ve gotten something from it,” explained Maaßen, who stressed the importance of keeping the ball in training this week. Augsburg should get their second home win in a row if they play with the necessary grit and determination against the newly-promoted side. “We want to show from the very beginning that we want to win,” said FCA’s head coach.
In fact, the Bayern Munich and Germany legend thinks that Real Madrid is actually a tougher draw than Manchester City (as detailed here — insert Tom’s link).
After a good first ten minutes, Freiburg’s first chance came as Chicco Höfler waltzed through the Karlsruhe midfield. Höfler gave the ball to Noah Weißhaupt, who slotted the ball into the net. However, he was judged to be in an offside position at the time of the pass. Junior Adamu was making his debut for the first team and, shortly before the drinks break, the Austrian attacker had his first SC goal in his sights. After a lovely bit of work by Jordy Makengo, Adamu met his cross and his effort whistled just past the post.
