Guirassy hat-trick turns game

VfL suffered a setback against high-flying Stuttgart on Matchday 7. After deservedly leading at half-time through Yannick Gerhardt’s first goal of the season, the Green-and-Whites failed to stretch their advantage and were undone by a quickfire hat-trick from Bundesliga top scorer Serhou Guirassy, who increased his goals tally to a remarkable 13.
After the forthcoming international break, the Wolves return to action at Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Saturday 21 October (kick-off 15:30 CEST).

Battle for Europe: handball ladies play host to Blomberg

After the great success in the European League, the message from Henk Groener’s team was clear: BVB want to play in Europe again next season. In the battle to finish third in the league, a victory against the side from Blomberg is almost a must. In recent months, HSG have fought to get to within two points of BVB, and have been putting in some strong performances in recent weeks.

SV Werder Bremen

Werder’s late fightback isn’t enough

A chaotic end to Saturday night’s clash with TSG Hoffenheim saw SV Werder Bremen defeated 3-2. The visitors took charge of the first half and deservedly went into the break with a two-goal lead thanks to Beier (8’) and Prömel (29’). Schmid had provided a glimmer of hope for the Green-Whites after putting them level in the 17th minute, but the home side were unable to turn the tide in their favour in the first half. With time running out, Werder were able to produce a late rally and Stage levelled the match once again with a spectacular finish (90+1’). The joy was short-lived, however, as Bülter quickly scored a third for the away side (90+2’) to put the game to bed, leaving the Green-Whites with nothing to show for their hard work.

FC Augsburg

Maaßen: “A very frustrating defeat”

Ermedin Demirović: “The defeat hurts, especially just after the game. To have given away a penalty so early on is really annoying, and once again we had to chase the game from behind. Overall, both were poor goals to concede, in ways that we have spoken about before. Nevertheless, we had the chances to get back in the game. I personally also had to score. We have to now look at the game, get cleverer and then reward ourselves with points once again.”
