Arne Engels joins Celtic FC
Deal agreed with 54-time Scottish champions and Champions League participants
FC Augsburg have agreed terms with Celtic FC over the immediate transfer of Arne Engels. Both clubs have agreed to keep the details of the move undisclosed. The 20-year-old arrived in Augsburg from Club NXT in January 2023 and will now be playing for the 54-time Scottish champions.
“When I heard that Celtic were interested in me and that I would have the opportunity to play in the Champions League this early into my career, I immediately knew that I wanted to take this opportunity. The growth and development I’ve experienced can be attributed to FC Augsburg, who saw potential in me and my abilities when they signed me from Belgium and allowed me to play so often over the last year and a half. I’m incredibly grateful that FCA are allowing me to take this next big step in my career,” said Engels.
Set for the next step in his career thanks to FCA
“During our discussions with Arne Engels, we could feel what it meant to him to have the opportunity to play in the Champions League. That was what led us to enter into final negotiations with Celtic in order to find the right conditions for everyone involved. We are, of course, delighted that yet another young player is preparing to take the next big step in their career after the coaching and playing time they have received at FCA. We would like to thank Arne for his efforts and all the great memories made at FCA and wish him all the best for his future career,” said Marinko Jurendic, FCA sporting director.
Engels featured in 53 competitive games for the club, scoring three goals and contributing a further nine assists. Most recently, the youngster earned his first senior call-up to the Belgium national team in the lead-up to EURO 2024.
