Tottenham willing to sacrifice ace to land World Cup star they missed out on in January

Tottenham are reportedly willing to include Bryan Gil in a deal for Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, in order to make a package that nears his £44million release clause.

Spurs haven’t had to worry about bringing a new goalkeeper to the club for a decade. Indeed, Hugo Lloris, now in his 11th season in north London, has racked up 443 appearances.

While for the most part he’s been a great asset for the club, questions over his form are creeping in. Indeed, of late, he’s not been up to the same standard he has been for most of his time at the club.

With an ageing star – Lloris is now 36 – standards are going to slip. As such, Tottenham seem to be on the lookout for a new man to take his place.

AS reported recently that Spurs had bid for Sevilla goalkeeper Bounou – known as Bono – in January. That bid, which was reportedly in the region of £17million, was shut down.

Another Spanish outlet now reports Spurs will continue their attempts to snare him in the summer. Indeed, it seems they’re happy to see the back of one of their own assets to make that happen, too.

The report suggests they’re looking to include winger Gil in their package. That’s so the deal reaches somewhere near Bono’s release clause of £44million.

That Gil is already at Sevilla means it’s something the club could well take into consideration. He scored his first goal on his return to the club in a 2-0 win over Sevilla on just his second game.

It would be quite the piece of business from the Spanish side if they were to bring Gil back to the club. They sold him to Tottenham for around £21million in 2021, and as yet, he’s had little impact for the north London club.

Continuing his form in Spain could mean they’re happy with the deal that Spurs apparently want.

What’s more, if that deal was to go through, Tottenham would be landing a top goalkeeper. While this season has been tough in terms of conceding goals at Sevilla, the last two have shown Bono in a great light.

The Morocco international kept 13 La Liga clean sheets last term and 15 the season prior. What’s more, he was a big factor in Morocco reaching the World Cup semi final, keeping clean sheets in three games.

As such, both sides would benefit from the reported deal, so it could be one that has legs.
