Spurs striker Harry Kane claims their loss to Sheffield United in the FA Cup ensured Tottenham would have a miserable seven days.

Antonio Conte’s side put in a lifeless performance in front of their home fans on Wednesday night as they failed to overturn a one-goal deficit in their Champions League last-16 clash against AC Milan.

It capped off an awful last seven days for Spurs with the goalless draw against Milan coming off the back of an FA Cup defeat to Sheffield United and a 1-0 loss to Wolves in the Premier League.

Tottenham fans were annoyed that Conte decided to make changes for their defeat at Bramall Lane to the Blades but the Championship side made eight changes of their own with the Spurs side still full of international players.

And Kane, who came on in the second half against Sheff Utd, thinks the result in Sheffield was “a dagger in our hearts” which impacted their momentum.

Speaking after the match against AC Milan, Kane admitted: “Where we’re at as a club, we should be winning trophies.

“The top four [being the only target] is a consequence of not playing as well as we want to play. For sure, it’s not enough for this club.

“I totally understand the fans’ frustration. Top four [alone] is not good enough for anyone at this club, especially the fans. They have the right to voice their opinion.

“The last week especially just hasn’t been good enough. Before the Sheffield United game, the season could have been a whole lot different. You go through there, you take that momentum into the league game and this game [against Milan].

“But I feel like that loss last week put a dagger in our hearts and as you can see we haven’t really recovered from that.”

Doubts have emerged about Conte’s future at the club .

Conte is out of contract in the summer and Kane added: “That’s his decision, he’s going to be the one that makes that choice. All we can do as players is try to perform for him, work as hard as we can.

“That’s what we’re doing. I said after the Wolves game at the weekend, you can’t fault the effort of the players.

“We just haven’t quite found that yet.”
