Scott McTominay to West Ham: ‘Not a scrapper’ claims former Hammer who says ‘no’

West Ham should swerve a mooted £25m move for Scott McTominay to replace Declan Rice, according to one former Hammer.

The Scot has been heavily linked with an exit to Manchester United, with both the Hammers and .

The suspension of Casemiro means he has an but it seems more likely that he will leave in the summer in search of first-team football.

Paul Parker told MyBettingSites last week: “Scott McTominay has to move away from Man United in the summer. He wants to stay in the Premier League but it’s going to be tough for him to find a new club. He is not good enough to play for a top side and the smaller clubs can’t pay his wages.

“But of course he can’t continue at Man United. Maybe he feels confident just sitting on the bench but that is a lack of ambition.

“And Man United don’t want a player that is comfortable with being on the bench. They want players that work hard to get into the starting lineup and not just be satisfied with playing at the biggest club in the world.”

Parker has tipped McTominay to end up at Rangers but claims the Man Utd midfielder is “not good enough” for Celtic, he added: “I think it could be a possibility for him to go to Rangers. He is not good enough to play for Celtic.

“There is no way he would be able to play regularly for Celtic in the way they play. He will have a better chance of playing if he moves to Rangers.”

And now Frank McAvennie – a Scot who played for both Celtic and West Ham – has told West Ham Zone: “No, not for me. No. He doesn’t bring enough to the table for me. I want someone to scrap, he’s not a scrapper.

“Decent player but you want someone that is going to go in there and scrap, get the ball. It’s alright when you’re playing for Man United, but when you’re playing for West Ham people are going to be on top of you.

“I don’t know if he’s got that kind of ability, so no. Not for me. But he’d probably come in and be a world-beater now.

“There’s a lot of players out there for West Ham that are better than McTominay.”
