Erik ten Hag “must be extremely upset” with Man Utd winger Antony after his poor displays so far this season, according to former defender Paul Parker.

The Red Devils players have been praised for much of the season for delivering a positive first campaign under Ten Hag but they have faced severe criticism since .

Man Utd were blown away in a second half which saw them concede six goals with Cody Gakpo, Mo Salah and Darwin Nunez all helping themselves to braces before Roberto Firmino wrapped up the scoring late on.

Antony was picked out for offering little going forward and not making the effort to track back with the summer signing from Ajax often criticised for his lack of defensive support he offers for his team-mates,

And former Man Utd defender Parker has criticised the Brazil international for his lack of “final product” and for disappearing during matches.

Parker told Apostagolos: “Antony’s final product is horrible. He doesn’t cross, he doesn’t try to dribble anyone. He is always missing in games. It won’t be surprising if one day no one misses him anymore, given how often he disappears.

“He was really bad against Liverpool once again. He actually plays at the back and puts pressure on the guard, so he looks more like a defender, which surprises me because his qualities should be in attack.

“Ten Hag must be extremely upset with his performance. He signed the player to make the difference from day one, but Antony let him down. People keep talking about being patient with him. But he was extremely expensive.

“He was supposed to deliver results from day one at Old Trafford. Do you buy a million dollar house if it’s not good to live in right away?

Parker continued: “The fans must be disappointed. He did not earn the right to receive the unconditional support of the fans. Of course, they will support him, I bet they will, but he also has to show some quality soon.”

Dutch journalist Nico Dijkshoorn said earlier this week that Ten Hag should consider dropping the Man Utd winger for four matches after his display against Liverpool.

Dijkshoorn said: “A good start: Antony should first be benched for four games and, from now on, forbid him to play a curling ball into the far corner with his left after cutting inside. In that sense, Liverpool’s humiliating slaughter is a blessing.

“Ten Hag will sense exactly that this is the right moment to sideline the next footballer with the Jesus disease for good.”
