Premier League manager linked to Spurs job but would Pochettino return keep Kane?

Harry Kane has just a year left on his Tottenham contract and is constantly being linked with a transfer to Manchester United, but does he have a ‘burning ambition’ to leave?

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent thinks not – – and believes that Tottenham could persuade Kane to sign a new contract by bringing back Mauricio Pochettino.

Kane clearly enjoyed playing under Pochettino and came within a whisker or two of actually winning a trophy under the Argentine.

He is now Tottenham’s record goalscorer and has his eyes on becoming the all-time top goalscorer in the Premier League, which he could probably achieve at Spurs despite a lack of trophies.

Bent said on talkSPORT: “I feel like we’ve been here before with Harry Kane. I don’t really see a burning ambition to leave.

“He did that whole Man City thing, maybe he conducted himself in the wrong way, and it’s not been spoken about since.

“If Pochettino goes back to Spurs I think Kane signs a new contract.”

Pochettino is consistently linked with a move back to Tottenham, though it is thought that Daniel Levy would target Fulham boss Marco Silva if Antonio Conte leaves at the end of the season as expected.

The Sun claim that the Cottagers boss – who has led Fulham to an unlikely top-half position – is seen as the natural successor to Pochettino.

He has certainly rebuilt his reputation since he struggled at Everton and is deemed ready for a chance at a big club.

The Sun add: ‘However, it remains unknown whether skipper Harry Kane would see Silva’s appointment as proof the club can win trophies in the near future – potentially forcing him to consider his options in the summer transfer window.’

Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim has responded to rumours he could replace Conte. This month Spurs have been knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship side Sheffield United and exited the Champions League at the hands of AC Milan.

That has seen pressure grow on Conte’s management despite the Italian missing a few games as he recovered from having his gallbladder removed.

However, when asked about reported interest from Tottenham, Amorim told reporters over the weekend: “I have a contract with Sporting for another three years and, in my head, it’s imagining being champion at least once more during these three years.”
