Michael Owen doesn’t think Liverpool will make the top four this season as he fancies Antonio Conte’s Tottenham side to pip them.

Liverpool looked like they got their spark back against Manchester United,

Jurgen Klopp’s side are six points behind Spurs as things stand, but they do hold a game in hand.

Owen thinks that by the end of the season, Liverpool’s inconsistency will ultimately cost them a place in the top four.

“I would be surprised if Tottenham didn’t clinch that fourth space because Liverpool are inconsistent,” Owen told Premier League Productions.

“Newcastle are rocky, even though they have played some tough games.

“Spurs are up and down, a little bit inconsistent , a bit like Liverpool actually. But it’s a good performance, even though Nottingham Forest made it easy for them.

“After Liverpool were chasing them down and getting closer and closer. They will be breathing a sigh of relief now because they have a bit of a cushion again.”

As things stand, Liverpool are projected to finish the season with 61 points. For context, that would have seen them finish sixth last season.

as they have only won three away matches in the league so far.

Tottenham themselves have been just as inconsistent as Liverpool this season, but they are currently in the driving seat with a six point advantage.

Klopp himself was recently asked about Liverpool’s inconsistent form during his press conference ahead of their Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

“I am not sure it is the season where we have the best chance, but let me say if we can surprise ourselves in a negative way then we should be able to surprise ourselves in a positive way as well,” Klopp told reporters.

“We are here to try to win the game – and to win it, we have to play extremely good because there is no other chance. If we play a normal game or an OK game or a good game it will not be enough.

“Only to win it, I am not talking about going through to the next round. We have to be really on top of our game tomorrow, that is what we will try.”
